Scottsdale Saguaro Citizenship Achievement: Mike “Tug” Garcia served on staff at Saguaro High school as the Equipment Manager in the Athletic Department. But much more than an equipment manager, says, Jason Mohns, Head Football Coach at Saguaro, “Tug was the heart and soul of the athletic department for the twelve years that he served with us. But, there is no description to write and no words that can be spoken about the impact that Tug Garcia had on the school and the student body during his twelve years here.” There are numerous people in this community that make significant contribution to the good of young athletics and young people during very formidable times. But, it is once in a very blue moon, you are witness to a man like Tug Garcia at work with young people and doing really good work to shape the adults that they will become. This really good man died unexpectedly at the age of 44 in September 2013. Nicknamed “Tug”, short for “Tugboat”, based on his short, stocky physique and workhorse mentality. He was a staple at Saguaro High school and mentored countless students and athletes throughout the years.
